About Karen

I am an Inupiaq Alaskan Native born in Anchorage, Alaska.  My family is from Unalakleet and White Mountain Area.  I strive to help the viewer really ‘think’ when they look into the eyes of the animals looking back at them. To really 'feel' the Spirit of Alaska from within. Some paintings come from childhood memories of my elders. I remember stories they would tell as well as the smiles and laughter. I loved how they were always so simple and so happy doing things with their hands to keep them busy and creative. As a little girl, it was as if magic were being created right before my eyes. I hope to share that same magic with you.

As an Alaskan Native, I paint my colorful paintings to pay homage to my homeland, culture and most importantly, my Ancestors. I hope that my style emanates joy and peace to you while expressing the vibrant Spirit and Atmosphere of Alaska. Picturesque Alaskan Landscapes, Lifestyles, Animals and Nature are all brought to life with contrasting and harmonious colors in addition to bold compositions. I like to mix watercolors, acrylics, and inks to create bright abstract pieces.

I am self-taught, and use the beautiful Alaskan Environment & My Culture as my Muse.

Thank you for joining me on this wonderful journey!
